About Us

WHAT IS WAY CITY ALL ABOUT?

We love Speedway. Let’s start there. Speedway is an incredible town full of people who care about others, care about their community, care about their students and the next generation, and care about our country and world.

We also love Jesus. Following Jesus – basing what we do in our lives off of his teachings found in the Bible – leads to the best life one could hope for in this lifetime. The results of following Jesus are called the “Fruit of the Spirit.” Like an apple tree bears apples, a follower of Jesus bears love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, kindness, goodness and self-control. Who wouldn’t want all of those things? What town wouldn’t be better, more like paradise, with more love, joy and peace?

We are committed to helping people become followers of Jesus. Jesus followers are often called “disciples” which means “student” or “apprentice.” As more and more people become like Jesus, our town will change for the better.

That’s why our mission is: To make disciples who make disciples. And if we do that well, the westside of Indianapolis will start to look different, too. It’s our vision that we live “In Speedway as it is in Heaven.”

WHAT DOES “WAY CITY” MEAN?

There are three reasons we chose “Way City” to be the name of our church. It mostly comes from the phrase “The Way.”

  1. Early Jesus-followers called themselves “followers of the Way.” So calling ourselves The Way links us back to first century believers.
  2. Jesus called himself, “the way, the truth, and the life.” We are Jesus-centered in everything we do and teach, so it’s fitting that our name refers back to him.
  3. Many people in Speedway refer to our town simply as “the Way.” As in, “Are you coming back to the Way for the Indy 500 this year?” Our name shows some town pride, too.

Jesus teaches that “a city on a hill cannot be hidden” because in the night it gives off so much light. In the same way, we want our church to be a city that “shines the light” of Jesus to Speedway to Indianapolis to the whole world.

WHEN & WHERE DO YOU MEET?

We meet from 10:30-11:30am at the St. John's Episcopal Church building (5625 W. 30th St, Speedway, IN 46224).

If you've lived in Speedway and don't know where that is, our church is right next to the Eagledale baseball fields.  If you still don't know where it is, go the McGilvery's parking lot, head east on 30th street through the neighborhood until you reach a dead end.  We're the church building on the right.

If you still don't know where it is, don't worry, Google does.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

Denominationally we are a part of the Wesleyan Church. Check out more about them here: www.wesleyan.org
